Cop guns down suspected adulterer

According to Odongo, the ASTU personnel suspected the deceased to be a Karimojong warrior when he was seen with a goat outside in the compound.

The Police in Katakwi district is holding one of their colleagues attached to the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) for allegedly shooting dead a civilian elder in Ngariam sub-county.

The East Kyoga Police publicist, Micheal Odongo has identified the suspect as John Bosco Lotiang attached to Adokar ASTU detach.

Odongo explained that Moses Ikabat aged 65-year-old was reportedly shot dead at Adokar village in Kaikamosing parish, Ngariam sub-county where he is suspected to have gone for extra-marital affair with a woman.

Ikabat a resident of Turkan Village in Osobut parish Ngariam sub-county allegedly went to Adokar, where he had a woman friend, only identified as Ilangut.

According to Odongo, the ASTU personnel suspected the deceased to be a Karimojong warrior when he was seen with a goat outside in the compound.

Odongo said Ikabat failed to identify himself and he was shot dead.

He said Lotiang, who is being held at Katakwi Central Police Station is is being investigated on the case of murder.

"We want to establish what exactly happened as we are trying to organize how to help the grieved family with the burial expenses," Odongo said on Thursday.

Although the Police said this was the first time they have killed the civilian over mistaken identity in the district, the LC3 chairperson Ngariam, John Francis Otude, said Ikabat is the fifth person to be killed by the security agencies on patrol in recent times.
