KAMPALA - State Minister of Education & Sports Charles Bakabulindi has urged the Uganda Sports Press Association vice president,Ritah Aliguma, to utilise her new position as AIPS-Africa executive member to further the growth of sports at different levels.

Aliguma, in the company of some of USPA members; Dorothy Nekesa, Frank Bwambale, Junior Ssembatya, Collins Muhwezi and Saltray Lubega, the person in charge of skills training at the Aliguma Foundation, had paid a courtesy visit to the minister who doubles as USPA patron, at the ministry offices on Tuesday.

The Minister invited Aliguma to congratulate her upon her appointment to the AIPS Africa committee.

He hailed her spirit of patriotism and love for sports journalism but also urged her to represent USPA and the nation well.

"You're key partners in promoting and marketing sports and sportsmen, so I would encourage you to continue and put more emphasis on our local talent because other players in the Premiership and other leagues have already made names for themselves, so they shouldn't take much of our space in the press," Bakabulindi urged.

The Minister applauded Aliguma's effort to use sports to change people's lives in the community through her Aliguma Foundation which currently carries on empowerment programmes in the slums especially in the Acholi Quarters in Banda.

Aliguma commended the minister, who is also the patron of USPA, for the effort towards development talent and sports throughout the nation.

The Minister assured the team about government's commitment to developing sports and emphasised the need for stakeholders like USPA and Aliguma Foundation to promote these efforts.
