FORT PORTAL - The organisers of the Fort-Portal launched their event to start in June. The three-day rally that was announced on Tuesday is the fourth on the National rally Calendar.
Uganda Motorsport Club chairman Badru Ssebunya in a press briefing at Lugogo noted that despite all the challenges faced the event is set to go.
Clerk of the Course (COC) Joshua Mayanja said during the launch of the rally at Lugogo that the event will be challenging and advised drivers to get the appropriate tyres for the wet terrain because it is a rainy season.
"There are no long stretches like it was in Masaka. Drivers should be ready for tight challenging sections and the most skilful will is likely to emerge victorious," Mayanja said.
Explained that the scrutineering will be done on Friday, the Super Special stage on Saturday and four competitive sections including Bukuku (8.7km), Mabereeganyinawiru (14.41km), Rwenzori (14.1km) and Mpanga (23.99km) to be repeated on Sunday.
The event which is the fourth on the NRC calendar will have atotal distance of 237.4km of which 144km will be competitive.
Fort Portal Municipality Member of Parliament Alex Ruhunda and the proprietor Kalya Courts Hotel David Mugambwa promised continued support to the organisers to have a successful event.
"Besides looking at Fort Portal as a Tourism City, We are determined to support this rally so that it can stay in our area," Mugambwa said.
His words were echoed further by Ruhunda who said, "Motorsport boosts our economy and we shall work hard to see the rally remain ours as we plan to bid for the Pearl of Africa rally."
FMU president Dusman Okee urged the organisers to observe safety during the event.
Ten drivers including former NRC Champion Dr.Ashraf Ahmed, NRC defending champion Christakis Fitidis, Omar Mayanja, Timothy Gawaya, Peter Kalule and event defending champion Hassan Alwi has confirmed participation and entry close on Saturday.
