Tumukunde kept a deaf ear on what they have been asking him to contest for Rubabo Member of parliament come 2021.

Former Security Minister Henry Tumukunde is in Rukungiri to campaign for NRM flag bearers ahead of 31st May election for district Woman MP and leaders of four town councils in Rukungiri district.

Tumukunde started with his home sub-county of Buyanja, then Kebisoni sub-county before meeting different groups in Rukungiri municipality on Wednesday at Hotel Riverside in Rukungiri Municipality.

Tumukunde was overwhelmed by the people he found on his gate in Nyakiju -Kitojo at 8:00am on Wednesday before going out to meet traders in Rukungiri municipality. He directed them to gather at Nyakiju Church of Uganda where he addressed them from.

Tumukunde told them that he was available for each and everybody and would get time and discuss issues concerning their area and how they can get out of the poverty.

He added that he was in Rukungiri to canvass support for NRM flag bearers for the coming elections. "You are aware of Woman parliamentary elections and the elections of town councils of Bikurungu, Rwerere, Buyanja and Kebisoni we should make sure NRM flag bearers win all those seats because Rukungiri has been NRM strong hold all along," he said.

Tumukunde kept deaf ear on what they have been asking him to contest for Rubabo Member of parliament come 2021. Tumukunde represented Rubabo County in constituency assembly in 1994 and since then has never contested again. They asked him if he would consider their request and contest for Parliamentary seat, but he did not give them answer.

He noted that the success of NRM in Rukungiri in the coming election is his pride and promised that he would reward them for voting NRM

"I don't know what happened to my sub-county Buyanja, how did it come that it turned to blue. I want to request you that now I am here with you. Let's come back to our original party. That's when we shall speak the same language as we used to do in the past," he said.

He said his main role now is to join President Yoweri Museveni to kick poverty out of Rukungiri.
