Swimmers set new records at the second Seals League Meet

Silverfin’s Selina Katumba opened the record breaking spree when she clocked 5:02.14 in the 400m freestyle.

Records tumbled as swimmers exhibited an improved performance during the Seals League meet, season-four's second round at Kampala Parents School pool on Saturday.

Silverfin's Selina Katumba opened the record breaking spree when she clocked 5:02.14 in the 400m freestyle to rewrite her 2015 (5:34.45) record by 32 seconds where second and third placed Seals' Ssinzi Nabatanzi and Alexis Kituuka also produced better time.

Dolphins' Darren Ssamula also rewrote his teammate Adnan Kabuye's time of 5:39.58 over the same distance, clocking 4:46.90 to come first over the same distance. Ben Kaganda (4:52.34), Samora Lumonya (4:52.49) and 11 others all had improved time over the 400m freestyle race in the 14 and under category.

In the 15 and over category, Seals' Zara Nsubuga (5:08.84) also broke Ann Mudanye's record by over 38 seconds where Otters' Mary Nassuna and Makerere University's Winfrey Nambuya made 7:06.48 and 7:56.15 respectively.

The record laden outing also had Kayla Gouws' 3:58.91 record in the 200m breaststroke, smashed by Dolphins' Sine Michelle (3:33.62); in the 10 and under where Silverfin's Isabel Angemi (3:37.18) and Seals' Ayana Muhawe (3:39.25) finished second and third respectively.

In the boy's category, Yonah Lumonya, Jordan Ssamula, Carlton Musenze and Daniel Nuwagaba bettered Seals' Francesco Kagugube's record of 3:43.69 by over 20, 15 and 10 seconds respectively.

Swagia Mubiru, Karla Mugisha and White Heather in the girls 11-12 years category and Abba Mayanja, John Kafumbe and Arthur Tayebwa in the boys' category also registered better time than that of 2015 record setters, Catherine Bowmaker and Mark Wandera's 3:42.82 and 3:34.63 respectively.

Namutebi Kirabo (3:00.35), Ssinzi Nabatanzi (3:00.54) and Selina Katumba were the top swimmers in the 200m breast where Samora Lumonya (2:48.47), Raphael Sine (2:50.68) and Francesco Kagugube (2:55.85) top perfomed in the girls and the boys 13-14 year categories. Seals Club's Anthea Mudanye, Zara Nsubuga and Makerere's Rachael Namayanja just like Dolphins' Adnan Kabuye, Aquatics' Patrick Rukundo and Dolphins' Tendo Mukalazi were also top in the 15 and over category.
