Over 60 granted dual citizenship in Denmark

Denmark - 63 Ugandans have been granted dual citizenship on the first and second day of the five-day diaspora awareness workshop in the Nordic countries.

Government sent a delegation led by Citizenship and Immigration Control board chairman, Maj Gen Emilio Mondo to Denmark and Sweden to sensitise and offer services to Ugandans in Europe.

Mondo said the President directed that dual citizenship applicants should be handled expeditiously.

Explaining: “The $400 fee levied is a contribution to non tax revenue and it cannot be reduced for those in the diaspora who are complaining.”

While presiding over the opening of a workshop that took place at the Uganda Embassy in Copenhagen, the Ugandan ambassador to Denmark, Kibedi Zaake, requested for statistics on visas issued through the online visa platform saying, they last updated in 2016 where the embassy issued 150 tourist visas.

“We need quarterly statistics about the online visa applicants that come to Uganda so that we can gauge the performance,” he said.

Zaake also noted that Ugandans in Denmark are happy with the government for bringing services nearer to them.

 
The Bank of Uganda Deputy Director Marketing Treasury Bills and Bonds, Arnold Bagubagye, also addressed participants on investing in bonds.
 
The Special Presidential Assistant on Diaspora Issues and the coordinator of the workshop, Florence Kiremerwa said the two days of the workshop in Denmark were successful.

However, she called for more support from other government ministries and agencies. 

“Ministries or agencies should commit themselves in advance to enable my office mobilize the diaspora in time and plan accordingly,” she added.

 
The event was graced by  Josephine Ekwang Ali, Acting Director Citizenship and Immigration Control; Ronald Magara, Assistant Commissioner Citizenship; Benon Mufuni acting Commissioner Immigration; and Fred Osore, principal legal officer among others. 

 
The workshop ends in Denmark on Tuesday April 24, 2018.

On Thursday April,  26 and Friday April, 27 2018 at 10:00am to 8:00pm,  it will be held at Spang Centre, Stormbyvagen 2, Spanga Stockholm, Sweden.
