Police retrieves two bodies from Lake Victoria

TRAGEDY     

KAMPALA - It was on Thursday morning when the body of Esopheri Mutege, 28, was discovered floating on Lake Victoria.

Mutege had earlier been reported missing at Entebbe Police Station. His family said he was last seen at their Kajjansi home on Tuesday.

Adrine Katushabe, Mutege's wife, said her husband used to make and sell chapati in  Kajjansi, but later moved to Entebbe in search of a better job.

"He left home on Monday and told me that he was going to look for a job in Entebbe, but had not returned home since," narrated Katushabe.

After waiting for two days, Mushabe opened up a file SD Ref 69/18/04/18 of missing person at Entebbe Police on April 18, before his body was discovered the following day in areas of Kitubulu, Entebbe municipality.

Upon finding Mutege's body, the Police opened up a new file SD Ref 11/19/04/2018 to investigate the circumstances that led to his possible drowning.

Another dead body on Lake Victoria

Barely two hours after finding Mutege's body, the Police spotted another body at Lwanjaba landing site, Katabi town council in Wakiso district.

The deceased was identified as Morris Musisi Sserumaga, 40, according to documents in his pockets.

Patrick Dick Balamu, the area chairperson, reported that the Sserumaga had been seen by some fishermen a couple of days ago, trying to cast his nets in water.

"He might have drowned during morning hours of Thursday, but fortunately, the residents identified him because he used to fish from Kigungu landing site," Balamu said.
 
Sserumaga, who used to travel on a small canoe without a life-jacket, was said to be a former employee of Allan Kamya of Kigungu in Entebbe municipality.

His body was later taken to Mulago Hospital as investigations into his death continue.
