Nanyondo sets personal best time in 1,500m

Uganda's Winnie Nanyondo run a personal best time of 4:03.09 despite coming 10th in the 1,500m finals at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in Australia Tuesday.

Nanyondo run in 4:08.49 to qualify for the finals. Her personal best earlier stood at 4:07.93 set at the IAAF Diamond league in Berlin, Germany last year.

South Africa's Caster Semenya won gold clocking 4:00.71 ahead of Beatrice Chepkoech of Kenya who came second in 4:03.09 to take the silver medal, while Wales' Melissa Courtney came third in 4:03:44 to take bronze.

Semenya also set a South African record, improving on the 4:01.81 set by Zola Budd in 1984 and also betters the games record of 4:04.43 set by Kenya's Hellen Obiri in 2014. Courtney clocking 4:03.44 also set a personal best time.

Also on Tuesday, Uganda's Emily Nanziri finished 6th in the first semifinal of the 400m. She crossed in the line in 54.10 setting a season best time but did not qualify for the medal race. Nanziri run a season best also a personal best in 54.06 at the 3rd National trial in 2014.
