ARUA - The Police in Arua on Tuesday retrieved bodies of three children who were found dead in a house used as kitchen.

The home of three children in Osu cell in Pangisha ward, Arua municipality had a two-roomed main house and another room outside, which was used as kitchen.

"When the children ate food on Monday night, I asked them to go and sleep. But this morning, I woke up at around 7:00am and they were nowhere to be found.

"I was forced to break the door of the kitchen after the children failed to wake up, only to find them dead. Two of them fell down from their bed, while one remained on the bed," the trio's father, Khemis Nassa, said.

He identified them as Huda Nassa,P6, Sumaya Nassa, P4 and Shamim Nassa, P4, all pupils of Arua Primary School in Arua municipality.

When our reporter visited the scene, he realised that the in which the children had slept had no ventilation.

Police officers led by Abas Senyonjo the district Police commander of Arua visited the scene and took the children for a postmortem to be carried out.

Senyonjo said the children could have been suffocated by fume as they found a cooking stove in the house which was used for cooking food.

He appealed to the family members and the community around to construct houses with proper ventilation.

At the time of the death, the mother of the children had gone to attend a burial in Yumbe district.
