KAMPALA - Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has embarked on massive recruitment drive countrywide as part of its preparation for the forthcoming local council elections.

The initiative was unveiled by party president Patrick Amuriat during their weekly press engagement at their offices in Najjanankumbi, Kampala on Monday.

Amuriat said the exercise is part of their agenda to strengthen the party's presence in the regions that are predominantly ruling party zones.

"Enlisting of members from countrywide has already begun and will continue until the party has got members that are enough to conquer leadership," he said.

Amuriat said the party leadership has changed the strategy of work by spending more time in the field mobilising and sensitising Ugandans on the party agenda and ideology.

He noted that they have so far held successful exercises in Kole, Mbarara and Kasese districts.

"In Kole district, we garnered 231 members crossing from the ruling party and seven from Rwampara County, including Vincent Kyamadidi, the former area MP," he said.

Amuriat added that they have directed party regional vice-chairpersons and district chairpersons to kick-start the process of preparing the locals for forthcoming local council polls.

"We want those interested to register quickly so we can hold party primaries to choose our flag-bearers and start campaigns," he said.

He said the power of any election is with the people at the grassroots and that it is the reason the NRM has been strong all these years.
