KAMPALA - Music legend John Kaahwa of the defunct Kads band is in a critical condition. He is reportedly admitted at The Surgery in Naguru, Kampala.
He was a founder member of the Kads band, which was popular over a decade ago, before it broke up.
The band membership comprised among others, Kaahwa, Akiiki Romeo, Titi Tabel, Prossy Kankunda and Bernard Munyigwa.
In their heyday, the Kads band artistes churned out a number of songs in quick succession and won several musical awards in the early 2000s.
Kaahwa, 60, has a number of songs to his name, including Hurra omwiguru nibanyeta, Twarra amata gange, Weebale Adyeeri and Purukeria.
Pictures of Kaahwa lying in a hospital bed are doing rounds on social media platforms. He looks weak and frail. Kaahwa is fighting for his life. His fans accompanied his picture with messages calling on "music lovers" to save Kaahwa's life.
Although he sang in Runyoro-Rutooro, his songs are still popular across the country.
In his signature wide-brimmed hat, Kaahwa moved crowds in entertainment places in Kampala and up-country towns. His deep voice continues to endear him to many.
The Kads band members stopped making public performances when it disbanded, but Kaahwa did not stop. He continued to perform in various places, including Nile View Casino in Jinja every Friday until he was involved in an accident on his way home after a performance a few years ago.
