FLOODING


RUKIGA - Transport and business in Muhanga town council in Rukiga district on Monday were paralysed following a heavy downpour that hit the area and left it soaked.

The heavy rains left several retail shops flooded and buildings like Kanyabwera hardware, Divine Hotel, Tian B studio, Muhanga cosmetics centre, Muhanga Police post and Kalita Transporters offices, among others were submerged in water.

Oscar Akampurira, a resident of Muhanga trading centre, who is also the headteacher of Muhanga Golden Primary School, said that the downpour that started at midday lasted for about three hours and left several business and residential houses submerged, forcing residents to free to their neighbours.

Akampurira said part of Muhanga Golden Day and Boarding Primary School was affected, but it none of the pupils was hurt.

Eudia Akomuhangi Mutabazi, the Muhanga town council town clerk said they had reached the scene to assess extent of damage caused by the rains in order to start modalities to seek help from the Government.
