The retired bishop of Busoga diocese, Cyprian Bamwoze, is battling blood cancer (leukemia) and needs sh100m for treatment at the Uganda Cancer Institute.

According to his nephew, the Rev. Can. Eric Kasirye, Bamwoze was diagnosed with cancer in August last year and has since been in and out of hospital.

Bamwoze's cancer is at stage IV, characterised by progressive painless enlargement of lymphoid tissue throughout the blood and suffers extra lymphatic involvement. He is currently on combination chemotherapy, which utilises 2-4 combination of drugs.

His son, Paul Bamwoze, said although the father is on chemotherapy, his condition has improved, but he has to keep going back to Mulago Hospital for reviews.

"The medication he is taking is expensive and the family is strained financially. Any kind of financial support is highly appreciated," Bamwoze's son said.
