Tricona alumni urged to stay united

WAKISO - The outgoing President of Trinity College Nabbingo Old Girls Association (TCNOGA), Christine Ikiria Sepuya, has asked the school's stakeholders to be committed to the school and its development activities.

She cautioned the alumni against bickering and selfish behaviour, arguing that their former school was the supreme good, which had to be prioritised over everything else.

Ikiria, alias Iki, also asked the school's staff members to be positive about the management changes at the school, in order to sustain its progress.

"It is my prayer that all the stakeholders, in particular the staff members, accept the new changes with utmost positivity. The so called pull her down syndrome, which is the habit of women engineering the downfall of their colleagues, should end. I know schools, which were previously big names, but which are currently just white elephants because they failed to manage change. Let us work together to take Nabbingo to another level. Nabbingo is more important than all of us. Our Alma mater is the supreme good," Ikiria said.

Ikiria made the remarks during the annual general assembly of the old girls (of Tricona) at the school in Wakiso district on Sunday.

Iki also called on the alumni, staff and students, to work harmoniously with the new headteacher of the school, Dorothy Matovu, to enhance the school's academic excellence.

She also asked the students to take advantage of the good study environment at the school to score excellent grades.

"When we were here in the 1980s, we would not have breakfast because our headmistress could not go out to buy for us sugar and maize flour. We did not have desks. We would sit on our mats and do our exercises on the floor. We did not also have piped water. We would fetch our water from the swamp, down the valley. All the same, we excelled. If we managed to excel in those circumstances, you have no excuse not to excel when you have first class modern facilities."

Administrative changes at Tricona

During the function, the new headteacher of the school, Dorothy Matovu, was introduced to the alumni, parents and friends of the school. The outgoing headteacher, Coltilda Nakate Kikomeko also bid farewell.

TCNOGA gets new executive

During the same occasion, the association of the old girls of Tricona held their annual general meeting, during which they elected alumnus Immaculate Lwanga as the new president of the association.

Others elected were:
Olivia Matovu Kyalimpa (vice-president), Jessica Kabali (secretary), Mauricius Kanyange (vice-secretary), Mary Tenywa Ssebaddawo (publicity secretary), Marie Solome Lubowa (vice-publicity secretary), Christine Nagujja (treasurer) and Christine Nakiganda Ssemwogere (treasurer).

The committee members include Dr Cissy Nawavvu,  Kaikara Sembatya,  Anne Najjuka, Angella Nakalembe, Flavia Nabagereka, Stella Kabateesi and Jackie Rita Namutebi.

The function started with a thanksgiving mass, which was presided over by the second Vicar-General of Kampala Archdiocese, Msgr Dr Lawrence Ssemusu and the Chaplain of Tricona, Fr John Chrysostom Kiwanuka.
