Desabre names team to face Malawi

Uganda Cranes head coach Sebastien Desabre has summoned a team composed of 23 players to start preparing for the upcoming two friendly matches.

England's Yeovil Town defender Bevis Kizito Mugabi is one of the players on the team. Mugabi was first summoned for the national team duty in 2016, but was withdrawn by his club, Yeovil Town with the club citing the short notice of the call-up.

At the FUFA press conference today, Desabre named four local based players, while the rest feature for clubs outside the country to start preparing for Malawi in the friendly tie on March 27 at Namboole, while the other will come on March 24th against a team yet to be confirmed.

"I have been in contact with most of them (players) on phone and we discussed a lot, but I believe the two games will help us to make a good evaluation," noted Sebastien.

The two friendly matches are being used as trial games for the national team ahead of the next games of 2019 AFCON Qualifiers. Uganda leads group L in  qualifiers  with three points after one round. The group also has Tanzania, Lesotho and Cape Verde.

Desabre also confirmed Sadiq Wassa as the goalkeeping coach in the absence of Fred Kajjoba who is undergoing a coaching in the USA. The other new member on the technical team is fitness coach D'Antonio Gerome (UEFA A Licensed Fitness coach) who will be available for only  the two friendly games.

Goalkeepers: Denis Onyango, Robert Odongkara, Salim Jamal.

Defenders: Nico Wakiro Wadada, Denis Iguma, Isaac Isinde, Bevis Mugabi, Murushid Juuko, Timothy Awanyi, Godfrey Walusimbi, Alex Kakuba.

Midfielders: Joseph Ochaya, Hassan Wasswa Mawanda, Khalid Aucho, Geoffrey Kizito, Faruku Miya, Milton Karisa, William Kizito Luwagga, Abraham Ndugwa.

Forwards: Emma Okwi, Yunus Sentamu, Edrisa Lubega, Hood Kaweesa.
