“The fake Facebook accounts go by different identities and bare the photographs of the chief justice, which we suspect were randomly downloaded from the Internet,” Muyita said in a statement.
KAMPALA - There is a fake Facebook account being operated in the names of the Chief Justice Bart Magunda Katureebe by unknown people, Solomon Muyita, the institutions publicist has said.
"The fake Facebook accounts go by different identities and bare the photographs of the chief justice, which we suspect were randomly downloaded from the Internet," Muyita said in a statement.
He said the accounts have misleading information targeting unsuspecting members of the public who have been frequenting the pages.
"The Judiciary wishes to inform the general public that the Chief Justice has never subscribed to Facebook and does not intend to open an account on this social media platform," Muyita said.
He advised the public against visiting the page because the information posted is false both about the Judiciary and the country.
"In the meantime, the Judiciary management is taking the necessary steps with Facebook, Inc. to have the false Facebook accounts closed as soon as possible. The Judiciary equally views this as an act of criminality and will take necessary steps to bring the perpetrators to book," Muyita said.
One of the pages, as seen by New Vision, has a mugshot of the Chief Justice wearing a wig and the judge's gown. The picture posted on March 10, 2015, has 2,329 likes, 2 shares and 17 comments.
