Lake Albert chokes on waste

NTOROKO - The residents of Kanara Landing Site in Ntoroko district risk contracting waterborne diseases as waste is dumped into the Lake Albert.
 
The residents are reportedly forced to dump the waste into the lake due to lack of proper waste disposal facilities among the fishing communities.

According to Milton Sibanyirwa, a Uganda Red Cross Society official, the community living around Kanara Landing Site dump rotten fish and intestines removed from fish and other waste into Lake Albert.

This practice exposes the residents to rwaterborne diseases as the same water source is used to for domestic chores, including washing utensils.
