Requiem mass held for Susan Magara at Mbuya

REQUIEM MASS | SUSAN MAGARA

KAMPALA - A sombre mood hang heavily over Our Lady of Africa Church in Mbuya, where a requiem mass was held Wednesday for the late Susan Magara, who was found murdered after going missing for three weeks.

Family, friends and other mourners gathered inside the Kampala-based church to pray for the soul of a life snuffed out at the young age of 28.

Susan's disappearance was reported on February 7, sparking off investigations that eventually culminated into the recovery of her body on Tuesday along the Southern Bypass. She was found dead at a place called Kitiko, between Kigo and Kajjansi.

Her murder has once again cast a bright spotlight on the state of security in the country.

Police recovered an audio recording of a male they suspect to be behind the murder of Susan, the daughter of John Magara, the director of Bwendero Dairy Farm (BDF).

While addressing a press conference Tuesday evening, the Police announced they had put on offer a cash reward of sh100m for any person that can "positively identify" the owner of the voice.

According to security, linking the voice to a person will provide a breakthrough in the investigations to bring Susan's killers to book.

'I was speechless'

"Susan's family did not deserve this," Fr John Mungereza, the parist priest of Mbuya, told mourners.

"When I heard of this [Susan's death] yesterday, I was speechless. We, as Christians, are taught not to fear death because it is part of our life. But not this kind of death," he said.

It later emerged that Susan's close family had desperately tried to secure her release from her captors. They had feared greatly for her life. Sadly, their fears would be later emphasised when her body was found.

Mourners laid wreaths on the coffin bearing the remains of Susan, before glowing tributes paid to a "jolly, happy and calm humna being".

One of her friend and fellow member of the Rotary Club of Bugolobi said they have lost "an asset, friend and sister", who was "not an ordinary person".
