Three killed in Kamdini accident

Those killed include two workers of Sino hydro corporation Limited working at Karuma dam and the wife of a Lira Pastor.

Three people have died and eight others seriously injured in an accident that occurred when a commuter taxi collided head on with a double cabin pick up on Monday afternoon.

The accident happened at Amati village, Juma parish in Kamdini sub county, Oyam district along the Kampala -Gulu highway

Those killed include two workers of Sino hydro corporation Limited working at Karuma dam and the wife of a Lira Pastor.

Oyam police traffic officer Patrick Lachen Otika said the accident took place at around 4:30 Pm when Toyota Hilux registration number UAL 621 W driven by Pastor Vincent Okeng (of Joy Drilling in Lira) from Diima in Kiryandongo district collided head on with a taxi registration number UBB 740 H being driven by one Richard Katende from Kamdini heading to Karuma.

The deceased have been identified as Joaquim Kabagambe working with Sino hydro Corporation Limited Karuma dam as safety inspector and Eunice Lyaka working as Sub contractor, and Maumee Okeng. The bodies have been taken to Kiryandongo Regional Hospital mortuary for post mortem.

The police attribute the cause of the accident to reckless driving and over speeding.

 
The injured were rushed to Pope John's hospital Aber in critical condition.  The injured include Pastor Vincent Okeng whose wife died.

Gloria Mary Ayebace the acting safety officer Sino hydro Corporation Limited Karuma dam said she last met with Kabagambe on Sunday during their meeting. She is the daughter of one Kabagambe who is a business man in Hoima.

Several people have been killed in different road accidents near Kamdini area over the years. In January last year, five people were killed when a lorry loaded with produce they were traveling on overturned at Karuma and several others were injured.

Eleven people were also killed near Kamdini when a pick-up vihicle they were traveling in collided with a trailer
