Kirumira, who is facing charges of corruption, bribery, extortion and unlawful exercise of authority before the police court, was received by crowds at his home in Wakiso district.

WAKISO - Residents of Bulenga along Mityana Road have given a warm welcome, amid ululations and dancing, to the former Buyende District Police Commander, ASP Muhammad Kirumira after he was released by Police on Thursday.

Kirumira, who is facing charges of corruption, bribery, extortion and unlawful exercise of authority before the police court, chaired by Senior Commissioner of Police, Denis Odongpiny, was received by crowds at his home at Gogonya Zone B in Bulenga Wakiso district.

 

 

He was driven home by former Kampala Metropolitan Police Operations commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Sam Omala who stood surety for him.

Others on the team included his father, Abubakar Mulaalo Kirumira, who also attended court, relatives and friends including two Kampala Capital City Authority councilors, Michael Ziggwa and Muhammad Ssegirinya.

At home, Kirumira was received by residents who danced and drummed. His wife, Mariam who on Tuesday gave birth to a baby boy, Abdul Shukur Mukasa Kaweesi, at Rubaga Hospital, handed him the baby, named after the slain AIP Andrew Felix Kaweesi.

His mother, Sarah Namuddu hugged him and was in jubilation, praising Allah for her son's release.  

"The police used excessive force to arrest our man as if he is a dangerous criminal, but why have they released him now if they thought he had committed treason. The Government must stop handling its people as if they are not human beings," said Christine Birungi, a resident.

Court directed Kirumira to report to the Police's Professional Standards Unit every working day at 9.30AM until the case is disposed of.

 

 

He was arrested on February 1st, 2018 and later remanded at Railway Police Station in Kampala, before being transferred to Nalufenya police detention facility in Jinja district.
