Choosing the right fence

Feb 14, 2018

Stone walls are the best and strongest. These stones are mainly made out of large blocks because they are used to form the first layer of the foundation when you start building and they make a good fence.

Q What are the different types of fences that one can choose from?

A We have different fence types and they can be used depending on what the homeowner prefers. Generally, though, most people fence their properties to demarcate where their land stops, and below are the types of fences:

Stone wall

Stone walls are the best and strongest. These stones are mainly made out of large blocks because they are used to form the first layer of the foundation when you start building and they make a good fence.

Metal grills

This type is made of a wall with metal grills on top. Welders make the metal grills, which come in different types and designs.

They can be strong if they are well-maintained by painting them to prevent rusting.

Brick walls

These are the common walls we see around many homes. If you are to use bricks, they come in different sizes (big and small) and are made from mud, clay or concrete.

Wooden fences

These are made out of wooden posts or poles and they divide spaces. The materials used are timber, blocks, steel rods and these are usually not more than 100cm or 120cm high.

Ornamental fence

With ornamental fences, these have more elaborate designs and are usually solid. They are usually found at opulent homes.

Hedge with wire netting

This is a type of fence with a chain link or wires with poles. Hedges are used in compounds and some are used to fence off gardens.

The hedges are natural fences with plants that should be trimmed and watered for good maintenance.

Bamboo reeds

This kind of fence is cheap, very prone to fire, because materials, such as grass and papyrus reeds, are used, but it can give your home a tropical look.

Chain link

These are made out of wire mesh with the support of concrete posts.
