A CALL FOR HELP

LIRA - The Media Fraternity in Lango has engaged in a fundraising drive to raise money to treat the former Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) Radio employee Charles Dickens Angulu Oruru.

The 63-year-old veteran journalist was hit by a motorcycle in 2015, fracturing his hip bone. He was then operated at Lira Medical Centre from where he realised little improvement and was discharged.

Angulu's condition later worsened, since then, the family struggled to treat him, but no proper improvement has been being realised. He is now bedridden, desperate for support at his residence in Braonger village, Ojwina division in Lira municipality with his legs and feet swollen. He has pain in the waist, back and shoulders.

His condition touched a few journalists, who visited him; prompting them to initiate the fundraising drive dubbed, "Treat Uncle CD" to raise funds for his treatment and to support the family.

The social media group has also been opened on WhatsApp name "Treat Uncle CD Oru" to help in support mobilisation.

According the chairperson fundraising drive committee, Moses Augustine Otim, over sh 6m is needed to pay for the veteran Journalist's treatment. The money, he said, will be spent on physiotherapy, drugs and buying him a functional knee brest.

"We have so far raised sh500,000 out of sh6m needed to treat him. However, we are optimistic that we shall raise the required amount through these platforms," said Otim.

He said a anyone willing to support the cause can send money through 0392-988844 and to talk to Angulu on 0776-700263.

Angulu, who is popularly known as CD Angulu Oruru, served UBC as a radio presenter and Luo news anchor from 1976 to 2003. He also worked in the Office of the Prime Minister as a radio controller. He is currently a volunteer at Radio Unity 97.7 FM in Lira.
