GGABA - The second Vicar General of Kampala Archdiocese, Msgr Dr Lawrence Ssemusu, has asked nursery and primary school teachers to observe the morals of their profession as they do their work.

He cautioned the teachers against vices such as greed for money, prestige and status, which he said had bedeviled many teachers, further to endangering the profession.

"Many of our teachers have failed in their work because of their greed for money. Today they want a million, tomorrow a billion. No amount of many can make you satisfied. On the other hand, doing your work professionally can give you real joy," said Ssemusu.

He made the remarks while presiding over the graduation ceremony of St John the Baptist, Ggaba Primary Teachers' College, which took place at the College on Friday.

Ssemusu urged the graduands to be practical in order to transform communities. He also asked them to have big dreams, in order to be successful in life.

During the function, 333 graduands were awarded with certificates and diplomas of Uganda Martyrs' University, Nkozi (UMU), in primary education and childhood education/development.

In his message, delivered for him by Audes Tiragana, the vice-chancellor of UMU, Fr Prof John Chrysostom Maviiri, asked the graduands to be innovative in their design and delivery of knowledge in order to beat the contemporary challenges of their profession.

Tiragana also advised for them to always pursue greater qualifications in order to be competitive and relevant in the job market.

The principal of the college, Maria Kalula, also asked the graduands to exercise their profession with love and joy despite the associated challenges. She later thanked the parents for supporting the graduands, which was one reason why they had successfully completed their courses.

The function was also graced by the chairman of the college's board of governors, Fr Dr Cornelius Ssempala and several representatives UMU, which supervises the academic programmes of the college.
