Car of murdered Case Clinic accountant found

KAMPALA - The car belonging to Francis Ekalungar, a Case Clinic accountant who had gone missing and later found killed, was Sunday recovered during a joint military operation in Kabowa, Kampala.

The vehicle was found with a fake number plate at one of the homes raided by operatives from the military intelligence (CMI) during a crackdown on suspected Boda Boda 2010 criminals.

This was in Ssimbwa zone in Rubaga Division. Three men, including Congolese nationals, were arrested.

The suspects were paraded before the press in the compound of their residence on Sunday

The development comes at a time when Police investigations into Ekalungar's murder have been going on.

His body was found earlier this year only hours after Case Clinic management had reported him missing. Apparently, Ekalungar, who had worked at Case Clinic for over two decades, had gone to deposit money in the bank.

But when his managers did not hear from him later, they notified the Police of his disappearance. Samples taken from the charred body believed to be of the accountant were taken by investigators for examination to confirm the identity.

Sunday's raid and discovery by military Police will offer a new dimension to the case. Three men; Mawa Muzamir (36),  (Kandi Muhindo (38) and Fagil Muwendo (36) were at the home where the car was found during the raid.

They were handcuffed and arrested.

The Joint Anti-Terrorism Task Force (JATT), part of the operation, confirmed that the vehicle (Premio) belonged to Ekalungar and its original number plate had been replaced with another one.

Another car was also found at the house where the suspects lived.

Earlier, army operatives raided the offices of the Boda Boda 2010 group in Wakaliga, Kampala on Saturday and arrested a number of members. Used number plates, machetes, clubs, hammers and other weapons were recovered during the operation.

Other group members were also arrested at the Top Radio offices in Bwaise, Kampala, where they had reportedly been hosted for a show.

Abdallah Kitatta, the leader of Boda Boda 2010, was also arrested later Saturday night.

Mid-last year, two boda boda factions clashed in Wakaliga, prompting the intervention of Police. Business around the area was paralysed as the two groups faced off in broad daylight. One of them was Boda Boda 2010, some of whose members are believed to be behind criminal acts in the city.

Police dispersed the clashing groups and arrested a number of people involved in the fracas.
