Nine charged over illegally practising medicine

MITYANA- Nine people were on Friday charged over illegally practising medicine.

The Police, together with officials from the Allied Health Professional Council of Uganda, under the health ministry had arrested the accused on Wednesday.

The operation was held in various places in Mityana municipality and twelve were arrested.

Appearing before the Grade One magistrate, Evelyn Kyomugisha, four of the accused were granted a cash bail of sh2m each and sh2m non-cash.

Among the ones granted bail was an Asian national, who had been arrested from Buswabulongo village, where he operated a pharmacy.

Those remanded to Ssaza prison include Samuel Madaaba, who had earlier been arrested for illegally operating a clinic without a licence. They were remanded until January 23. 

Micheal Kayizzi from the Allied Health Professional Council of Uganda, who led the operation, said he was happy with the court and Police work.

"This is not the end, we shall continue with operation everywhere," he said.
