“At about 11pm as Dr. Obuku got home he was attacked by five well-built men at his gate.

The Uganda Medical Association (UMA) Vice President Pauline Byakika has said the association president Dr. Ekwaro Obuku is currently conscious, stable and improving fast. The comments follow last night's attack on him by thugs.

"At about 11pm as Dr. Obuku got home he was attacked by five well-built men at his gate. They threw huge stones at his windscreen and ordered him to get out. He was mugged and his phone was stolen," said Byakika in a press statement.

Multiple media reports indicate that Obuku was at his gate in Kitikifumba Zone in Kiira division in Wakiso district.

Byakika explained that Obuku sustained head injury and bled profusely. He was rushed to CASE hospital where he's currently undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit.

"The case has been reported to the Kira police station and they promised to get to the bottom of this incident. We advise UMA members to be very vigilant about their security during this festive season," she noted, adding that the hospital has advised a restriction on his visitors and only immediate family members will be allowed to see him.
