Property worth over millions of shillings destroyed in a house fire

‘’We were a sleep with our children when we heard our refrigerator burning and it was too late to rescue some of the property and shop merchandize as the entire house had been caught by fire.

Property and merchandize worth over sh10m have been gutted by an inferno. Ten family members survived death in Kabamba Sub-county Kagadi District.

Ntimba Kamahali, 42, a resident of Kabamba trading center the owner of the burnt house said, the fire originated from the a refrigerator that over heated and caught fire at around 12:00am on Wednesday.

"We were a sleep with our children when we heard our refrigerator burning and it was too late to rescue some of the property and shop merchandize as the entire house had been caught by fire. We only saved our lives by using another exit in the house. My eight children 3 girls and 5 boys were grabbed and thrown out side but most of the house hold items were reduced to ashes," he said.

The survivors included, a 38-year-old Asiimwe Businge and 8 children aged 5-16.

"I was testing my refrigerator which had just been repaired unfortunately I left it on throughout the night. Little did I know that it still had mechanical faults. I have lost most of my house hold property worth over sh10m including my motorcycle which I  bought recently at sh4m," he said.

Emmanuel Tumwebaze, a resident of the area and Kiryanga sub-county Assistant Community development officer who reached at the scene said, Kahamali lost all his property and house and is pondering for the next step. He advised residents to desist from leaving their electrical appliances working throughout the night.
Apolocalipo Ndyomugyenyi, the Kabamba LCI Chairman said it is the second time for such incident to occur in the area.

"Last month a house belonging to a Business Man in Kabamba trading center was also gutted by fire that originated from a candle that was left burning in the night. Two children were hospitalized and later discharged. Property worth over sh5m was reduced to ashes," he said.
