Kitgum prepares for St Janani Luwum anniversary

According to Rev Canon Robinson Oginga, the parish Chief of St Janani Luwum church in Kitgum Town, preparations for the event were launched on Sunday.
Kitgum diocese has launched preparations to remember and celebrate the life of fallen Archbishop of church of Uganda Janani Luwum.
Janani Luwum, the archbishop of metropolitan Anglican province of Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and Boga-Zaire, was killed on 16th February 1977, by former President Idi Amin regime.
According to Rev Canon Robinson Oginga, the parish Chief of St Janani Luwum church in Kitgum Town, preparations for the event were launched on Sunday.
Rev Oginga, who is also a member of the organizing committee for the prayers said last year the event held in wi-gweng village in Mucwini , where the bishop hails from, was successful and urged Christians in Gulu to join Kitgum Diocese in making the day memorable.
President Yoweri Museveni last year declared February 16th a public holiday in remembrance of the murder of the Archbishop.
In his message during the 39th martyrdom anniversary of St Janani Luwum, the president described Luwum as a hero and an icon who stood for human rights and his faith.
