I will crush anyone opposed to age limit Bill - Nadduli

Dec 07, 2017

“Whoever came here with a spirit of defiance will go back with one arm. I will not just sit and look on while the revolution that I fought for is being sabotaged."

The minister without portfolio Abdul Nadduli has said that consultations over the age limit Bill were just a gesture and that the Bill will be passed with or without voters' input.

"This (the public consultation) is just a gesture of courtesy, but the Bill will be passed by Parliament," Nadduli said while addressing Nakaseke NRM district and sub-county leaders who attended a one-day consultation meeting on Friday.

The meeting was also addressed by MP Syda Bumba and Nakaseke NRM district officials.

Nadduli reassured the NRM leaders that with or without consultations, the Bill would be passed by Parliament because amending or not amending was a ‘parliamentary issue'

Nadduli who described President Museveni as being ‘God sent' said the lifting of the presidential age limit was crucial for the NRM to remain in power.

The former NRA guerrilla fighter said he would use his guerrilla tactics to ‘crush ‘those who are in the way of lifting the presidential age limit, saying that they were indirectly fighting the NRM revolution.

This was after some party officials, especially the youth who attended the meeting, accused the NRM top officials of imposing the Bill on them and only coming to consult them when the top party officials had already taken a decision.

"Whoever came here with a spirit of defiance will go back with one arm. I will not just sit back and look on while the revolution that I fought for is being sabotaged. I did not train for nothing."

Nadduli reminded the youth, some of whom were opposed to the lifting of the presidential age limit that they were laying their own trap because they would also grow old.

Meanwhile NRM leaders in Nakaseke lamented that the southern part of the district has slipped into the hands of the Opposition, despite Nakaseke being the cradle of the ruling party.

Nakaseke South is represented by DP's Paul Luttamaguzi who trounced the incumbent NRM Member of Parliament in the 2016 parliamentary elections.

The leaders, who blamed the loss of the parliamentary seat to the in-fighting within the party, criticised the party top brass for not having helped to avert the loss by releasing funds to help in defeating the Opposition.

They said Paul Luttamaguzi was creating negative influence in the district by influencing the people not to support the bill to lift the presidential age limit.

The meeting resolved to support the lifting of the presidential age limit in order to enable President Museveni to con test in 2021.
