The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) National Executive Committee (NEC) is convening today at the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi to assess the agenda of the new party president.
One of the issues top on the agenda of the closed door meeting is to form a committee that will arbitrate the differences within the party which emerged from the just concluded presidential party elections according to sources from the party.
"This is an internal matter but we will be sure to share the resolutions from meeting," said Harold Kaija, the party‘s deputy secretary general when contacted on phone.
Last week during his inaugural speech, Patrick Oboi Amuriat the new party president revealed plans to form a committee that will ensure the reconciliation and harmonization process of the internal differences within the party.
Following the events that took place during the just concluded campaigns and elections for the new president of the party that were characterized by accusations and malice due to the difference in ideology, two major factions emerged as party members fell out.
Amuriat subsequently emerged winner with 641 votes edging the incumbent Gen Mugisha Muntu, who gathered 463 from the delegates, thus conceding to the defeat in a race that attracted two other candidates.
Amuriat's candidature was profoundly boosted by what many saw as support from the party's ‘defiance' camp led by former party president Col Kizza Besigye and party mobilizer Ingrid Turinawe who is also very close to Besigye.
Muntu who ran his campaign on the approach of building party structures was heavily supported by party members in parliament including Winnie Kizza the leader of opposition, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda the party's spokesperson who was also the chief campaigner.
The reconciliation process also seeks to also address issues of the ‘distressed' party members especially those that rallied behind the former party president Gen Mugisha Muntu.
