LC polls: High Court issues fourth interim order

Dec 04, 2017

The interim order will remain in force until January 30 next year.

The High Court has issued the fourth interim order halting the local council elections.

This morning, the High Court's civil division judge, Steven Musota, issued an interim order which will remain in force until January 30 next year.

This follows a submission from the Electoral Commission (EC) lawyer Eric Sabiiti, who asked court for more time so that all parties can conclude there settlements out of court.

Sabiiti informed court that negotiations are in advanced stages. EC also wrote a letter addressed to the principal Judge, Yorokamu Bamwine, asking that all cases related to the LC elections be transferred from Mbale and allocated  to one judge, since they are similar in nature.

Interim orders halting LC elections arise from a case filed by a concerned teacher, James Tweheyo, who filed a case before the High Court, challenging the conduct of elections without including students.
