The grand Acholi Cultural Festival is scheduled to take place in two weeks in a bid to showcase the rich culture and traditions of the Acholi people.

The Acholi cultural leader, Rwot David Onen Acana II, has sanctioned a process to memorise and celebrate the beauty of the culture. The festival will run under the theme kwero deyo pa Acholi (celebrating the beauty of the Acholi).

Various events will take place between Thursday 14th  to Saturday December 16 at the Kaunda Grounds and Pak Centre in Gulu district.

Irene Atek, the finance manager of the event, said the aim of the festival was to promote progress and development.

"We want to unite the Acholi, to rejuvenate our culture. We want to show our culture, our traditional dances, food, local drinks and to connect with the world," she said.

Atek said there will be cooking lessons for children under 11 years, a cooking competition and Acholi food restaurant.

She also said there will also be the march past,  (mwoc ma papat) Acholi legacy award gala, music, dance, dress and various awards. She noted that there will be the launch of the fundraising  for ‘Aduku pa Rwot' at Ker Kwaro Acholi.

Atek said a budget of sh300m had been drawn for the festival and all sponsors were called upon to support with contributions in cash and kind.
