Nakiyemba wins silver in Botswana Badminton championships

After winning her first international silver in the Botswana badminton championship, Uganda's seed-two Aisha Nakiyemba is determined to amass more ranking points in order to be able to compete in the 2018 Common Wealth Games in Australia.

Nakiyemba lost to South Africa's Johanita Scholtz 21-10, 21-17 in the final, but won her first silver medal on foreign soil.

She now heads to the Zambia Open in high spirits as she aims at raising more points for future international tournaments. Last year, she won bronze in Zambia and is looking to better her performance, with the Common Wealth Games qualification on top of the agenda.

"I would also like to represent the country in the World Championships which will take place in August in China next year, but whose qualification stops in April. So to make that a reality I have to continue participating in international tournaments," Nakiyemba stated.

 "I only pray that our association can register me to compete in more international ranking tournaments so that I can amass more points to be able to qualify for bigger events. Like for the Common Wealth games we have to be in the top 15 in the world to be able to represent the country," she noted.

Nakiyemba has this year traversed the continent participating in tournaments in Nigeria, Kenya, Benin, Mauritius and Ethiopia collecting ranking points for future engagements.

Fred Kirabo and Isaac Senfuka who represented Uganda in the doubles in Botswana were eliminated at the quarter finals.
