Applicants forge academic papers to get govt jobs

A number of Ugandans seeking to secure jobs from government forge documents, Parliament has heard.

According to Public Service Commission (PSC) Chairperson, Raphael Ochan, forged academic papers remains a big problem whenever jobs are advertised to be filled.

Ochan was on Wednesday presenting the PSC annual report to Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga at Parliament.  

In the year under review, the commission has administered exams to 17,444 applicants against 841 vacancies. Graduate recruitment exercise attracted 10,057 applicants against 154 vacancies.

The 2016, census report indicated that Uganda's population between the productive age of 14 and 64 is slightly over 18m. With 58% of this population group unemployed. Uganda's total non-utilized labour potential is 10.4m as of 2014.

The report indicated that majority of those unemployed are women with 65.2% (over 11m) of them 'redundant.'
