Kabale district has received road equipment from the central government to help them improve on their road network.

The road equipment received include a wheal loader (registration number UG 2056W COMATSU) and a Grader (Registration number UG 2009W  KOMATSU).

In July this year, President Yoweri Museveni flagged off road equipment and it was part of the 1151 pieces of equipment that were to be given out to 121 districts in Uganda during the commissioning ceremony at Bweyogerere in Wakiso District.

The equipment, bought using a loan from the Japanese Bank for International Co-operation, will be used to maintain the roads under the care of district local governments.

Each district will receive a road unit comprising one motor grader, one vibro roller, one wheel loader, one water bowser and two dump trucks.

While receiving the equipment at Kigezi Private Sector Promotion Centre Ltd in Kabale municipality, the Kabale district chief administrative officer, Wilson Tibugyendwa, hailed the central government, saying they can now fix roads that have been destroyed by heavy rains.

The Kabale district speaker, Loy Zinkampereza, said the district has been failing to work on the road due to lack of road equipment.

"People have been complaining that we have delayed to work on roads. The only challenge was road equipment," said Zikampereza.

The Kamuganguzi, Kitumba and Katuna town council woman district councillor Peace Rutarimara hailed the government for fulfilling its pledges towards the people, saying that they expect a better transport system.

"We are now sure that if our roads are repaired, transporting our goods to the market will be made more affordable," she said.
