The team is looking to make another attempt at the world championships

XVI Women's Softball World Championship

African Qualifiers: Jan 12-14, South Africa

When Uganda ranked among the best softball countries in Africa last year, a new wave of optimism was swept the country.

Practically, glory on the world stage is top on the priority list of the national ladies' side, the She Pearls, and participation at the Women's World Softball Championship last year in Canada where they finished twenty fourth out of thirty teams was a commendable feat.

The team is now looking to make another attempt at the world championships next year in Japan but first they will have to go through the African qualifier next year in January South Africa.

Importantly, the East Africa Baseball and Softball Championships due in December this year will further help prepare the girls ahead of the much anticipated qualifiers where South Africa and Botswana are strong contenders. Uganda ranks only below those two in Africa.

The East African meet is the first tournament to be organized by the East Africa Baseball and Softball Federation.

However Uganda's plans are hampered by lack of sponsorship, a major barrier that could force the team to withdraw from the series of engagements lined up.

"The girls have been hard on training for the past eight months but the lack of funds is pulling us back. We seek out for potential sponsors to come to our rescue as time is running out" said Dennis Kasozi the Uganda Baseball and Softball Association president.
