Uganda celebrated the World Cities Day in Kampala with an appeal from the Minister of State for Lands, Housing and Urban Development Isaac Musumba to decongest Kampala.

Musumba said the local leaders should ensure that people have plans before constructing buildings in the City. He also said that though many people of low incomes stay in the slums, they should ensure proper hygiene.

Musumba made the remarks in Kampala during the awarding of best slums dwellers for their contributions in improving sanitation on Friday.

He recommended the work done by Shelter Settlements Alternatives for coming up with competition for people living in slums to create income-generating projects.

The executive director for Shelter and Settlements Alternatives (SSA), Dorothy Bazibwe, said that with the skills acquired, slum dwellers will be able to improve on their sanitation.
