A 58-year-old housewife is one of the candidates sitting for this year's Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) at Ojwina Primary School.

Aida Okello Otim, the wife of a church minister, said she started her education from P4 in 2014.

She said she wants to go to school in order to get reading skills so that when she gets visitors in her home, she can easily speak to them.

She also hopes that more years at school will help her communicate easily with her children's friends who may not understand Luo, her native language.

Okello said after her education, she wants to fulfil her childhood wish of becoming a nurse or join catering service.

The determined mother of nine said she comes from Okwang Sub County in Otuke district. In her childhood, she failed to get proper education because of the remoteness of her home lying between rivers.

She says when it rains in her home village, children cannot cross to go to school because the area becomes flooded.

Ojwina Examination centre, where she wrote her exam, has four schools with one candidate of special needs.
