Eastern Region backs Otucet for UAF presidency

The region made its decision to back Otucet during its executive association meeting

With two months left to the Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) general elections, Eastern Region has backed the candidature of incumbent Domenic Otucet.

Otucet who is seeking a third term in office is the only one who has made it known to retain the Athletics high office.

"With the achievements that the leadership of Otucet has brought to the Athletes in the country, we think he should maintain it so that we shall continue shining globally" said Jimmy Isamat the Eastern Region Athletics Association chairperson.

The region made its decision to back Otucet during its executive association meeting held in Mbale on Sunday.

"We are proud of Otucet's leadership because it was able to bring the country an Olympic marathon medal in London after over 40 years. Why should we change him when his work speaks volumes?" Isamat asked.

In 2012, Stephen Kiprotich, won Uganda a second ever Olympic gold medal after John Akii-Bua, who won Uganda's first in 1972

Speaking to New Vision, Otucet said his dream is to ensure that Uganda wins more medals in the years to come.

"I seek for another term with hope that we can bring more medals. My executive is willing to work hard to make that dream come true," Otucet said.

Otucet and his executive's terms of office expire in December after serving for four years. The general elections shall be held in January 2018 in Lugogo.

Unlike other federations, there is no prior declaration of interest in positions as nominations shall be done on the day of the elections.

Currently, districts which are the members of the federation, are nominating the officials that will represent them at the one day assembly.
