Govt asked to enforce ban on sale of alcohol in sachets

Government has come under criticism over its failure to implement a ban on the manufacture, sale and consumption of alcohol packed in sachets.

In January, the trade ministry issued a statement notifying alcohol manufacturers that the Government had given them up to September 30, to stop the sale of alcohol packed in sachets.

However, Michael Eluluma, the LC3 chairperson of Abarilela sub-county in Amuria district, says sachet alcohol is still in circulation despite the deadline given to the manufacturing companies to stop its production elapsing.

Eluluma has challenged government to enforce the ban.
