Govt refutes number of workers' deaths in Middle East

Gender minister Janat Mukwaya says preliminary investigations reveal that five people died. There are claims that the number is 48.

Government has dismissed calims that 48 Ugandans died in the Middle East in the last eight months.
 
Western Youth MP Mwine Mpaka and Ngora County MP David Abala told journalists on Tuesday that they got a report from the Embassy of Uganda in United Arab Emirates, which indicated that 48 Ugandans had died in Middle East Countries, of which 35 committed suicide due to poor working conditions.
 
Gender minister Janat Mukwaya says their preliminary investigations have revealed that five people died.
 
Mukwaya says since Parliament is in recess, she has not gotten the full report, which they have to base on to make further investigations.
