Uganda's Kees Kagoro has been appointed the competitors relations officer (CRO) of this weekend's Zambia International Rally.

The event in the Zambian town of Chisamba, 72.6km from Lusaka, is the final round of the Africa Rally Championship (ARC) and Uganda's Christakis Fitidis eyes the third overall position.

Kagoro's appointment comes after his perfect performance as CRO during the Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally in July.

"Yes our own Kagoro will be the CRO in the Zambia rally and we wish him the best together with Christakis Fitidis who is competing," Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda president Dusman Okee revealed.

Kagoro stated that the appointment fulfils his dream of officiating at a world event and he will carry out his duty in respect to the rules and regulations governing motorsport.

"I'm excited and I will do my best to see that am again appointed on top world events," Kagoro stated.

Meanwhile Fitidis navigated by Eric Nzamwita in a Mitsubishi Evo 10 left flew out of the country on Monday morning.

"I'm going to Zambia with three targets which include beating the Kleevan Gomesi to finish on the ARC podium, prove the youngsters that I'm still fast and also beat rally legend Munah Singh," Fitidis told New Vision.

He is fourth on the ARC with 36 points, two behind Kleevan Gomesi and three ahead of Giancarlo Davite who is in fifth position.

Kenya's Manvir Baryan is in a comfortable lead with 90 points and Leroy Gomes is second with 65 points.

If Fitidis finishes third overall, he will become only the third Ugandan to finish on the ARC podium with Charles Muhangi who won the event in 1999 and Jas Mangat who finished second in 2014 behind Jassy Singh.

Fitidis, 65, also added that the Zambia rally will help him prepare for the final round of the National Rally Championship next month.
