Besigye is suing Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) for refusing to run his 2011 campaign messages

Hearing of a case in which former FDC presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye is suing Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) for refusing to run his 2011 campaign messages has flopped before the High Court after the UBC lawyer failed to appear.

Justice Margaret Oguli had scheduled to hear the case where Besigye seeks a refund of sh21m paid to the national broadcaster to run his campaign adverts, but she could not proceed as UBC lawyer Kiryoka Kiwanuka was reported to be sick.

This promopted Justice Oguli to adjourn the case to October 16.

This angered Besigye who says his case has taken so long in court having filed it in 2011.

Among other redresses, Besigye also seeks an injunction barring UBC as a national broadcaster from discriminating against people depending on their political affiliations.

According to suit filed against UBC and its then former managing director, Edward Musinguzi, the duo allegedly received sh21m from Besigye's media agent Big Ideas to run over 200 spot messages for his 2011 presidential campaigns, but none-was run.
