Excel independence swimming gala to prepare athletes for CANA ZONE III

This year's edition of the Excel Independence Swimming Gala is at least sh8m richer courtesy of Excel Insurance Company.

The schools' event which is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at Kampala International School (KISU) will in another way prepare 16 athletes for the much anticipated CANA ZONE III this month in Dar es salaam, Tanzania.

"As we prepare our swimmers for the event in Tanzania, this particular independence gala will serve right in shaping them," said Moses Mwase, general secretary Uganda swimming federation.

Meanwhile, the money boost is a continuation of the longstanding partnership between USF and the insurance company.

"Our relationship with USF keeps getting better and as such we are privileged to announce that we intend to continue with the status quo," said Robert Musiitwa, the acting general managing director during a presser at their offices in Kampala on Thursday.

A revolving trophy meant to commemorate the late David Walakira, a former managing director at Excel has been introduced and it will be awarded to the most spirited team in this 16th edition.

Aga Khan won last year's edition after amassing a combined total of 2603 points with Greenhill Academy, KISU, Taibah  International School,  Makerere University, British School Kampala, GEMS Cambridge, Uganda Martyrs Namugongo, Gayaza High School, Word of Life International School following respectively.
