Ministry tackles Hepatitis B in Pallisa

Over 100 people have died Hepatitis B in the district

 

The Ministry of Health has finally intervened in Pallisa district after 98 people were reported to have died from Hepatitis B.

The program officer in charge of Hepatitis B in the Ministry, Edward Pius Basenge, visited Pallisa to map health center IIIs for storage, testing and vaccination and treatment of people against Hepatitis B.

Basenge said though Pallisa falls under faze two districts after the first 40 with the highest prevalence, the Ministry intervened following the rising number of registered deaths and recorded cases tested in the neighbouring districts of Ngora, Kumi and Bukedea.

"The first thing we are going to do is sensitizing people through radio talk shows, print media, churches and community engagement so that people get the information on prevention, transmission and treatment" Basenge said.

He said the all family members should be tested and those found negative will be advised to get vaccinated and those that test positive will be evaluated for treatment and monitoring.

John Watenyeli Nabende the resident district commissioner of Pallisa the intervention by government to vaccinate people against Hepatitis B is going to save lives and also make people aware how on control measures.

Watenyeli cautioned spouses against turning violent in case one tests positive yet the other is negative.
