Sovereign Hotels takes over management of Pearl of Africa Hotel (AYA)

The five-star luxury hotel, in which Hamid Muhammad, the chairman of AYA Group has sunk sh1.75 trillion (US$300m), stands on a 14-acre piece of land on Nakasero Hill.

Pearl of Africa Hotel formerly Kampala Hilton Hotel has acquired a new partner, Sovereign Hotels, one of Africa's leading hotel management companies ahead of its grand opening on October 1, 2017.

The facility, which opened to the public in June this year, is slated to have a grand opening on Sunday where President Yoweri Museveni, who is the immediate neighbour at Nakasero Hill, is expected to preside over the function.  

The new General Manager, Mike Jameson told journalists during a tour of the completed luxury facilities that Sovereign Hotels, which is managing a score of Five-Star hotels in South Africa and Kenya, had signed the first contract to take over full management.

With 36 years of experience in luxury hotel industry, Jameson said that the Sovereign Hotel management had signed a six-month initial contract with the AYA Group, the owners of Pearl of Africa Hotel and will renew it after to a 10-year period, depending on their performance.

He said his team of experts had started working together with the 276-local work force already at the facility to make it a successful venture for the owners.

The five-star luxury hotel, in which Hamid Muhammad, the chairman of AYA Group has sunk sh1.75 trillion (US$300m), stands on a 14-acre piece of land on Nakasero Hill. It is currently the tallest building in Kampala city. Construction started in 2006.

"This is the first facility we are managing in Uganda, four in Kenya and several others in S. Africa, where we employ strong teams of expertise in hotel industry," he told journalists.

The hotel has 296 rooms, from Presidential Suits to diplomatic and junior and double and single facilities, interlinked with high communication technology.

The hotel runs on solar, generator and national hydro grid, with high class facilities like indoor and outside swimming pool, gym, fitness studio, basketball court, tennis court, two squash courts, steam and sauna, seven treatment rooms in the Spa and a relaxation lounge, among others.
