WEALTH CREATION | NAMAYINGO DISTRICT

NAMAYINGO - A total of 19 farmers in Namayingo district yesterday received heifers under the Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) programme to enable them improve house hold incomes.

The Resident District Commissioner, Sylvester Opira, while handing over the heifers at the district headquarters, cautioned farmers against selling  them off to marry more women or get cash for drinking alcohol.

"It is an offence to sell these heifers. Anyone found guilty will be prosecuted and charged before the courts of law," he said.

Opira hailed the Government for its support towards improving the lives of the people, especially those in rural areas.

He urged farmers to always ensure prompt vaccination of their animals, besides proper hygiene in kraals, so as to ensure the animals are not hit by disease.

The LC 5 chairman of Namayingo, Ronald Sanya said the heifers will play a big role in improving the house hold incomes of people in the district.

"Majority of our people entirely rely on farming in order to earn a living, yet they have been complaining of lack of capital to buy animals," he noted.

Sanya urged the Government to allocate more funds to the OWC programme, so many more farmers can benefit from it.
