The women national rugby sevens team coach, Helen Buteme believes his girls put up a good performance despite finishing fourth in the Rugby Africa women Sevens tournament last weekend in Tunisia.

The Lady Cranes who expected a top two finish, managed to finish fourth at the Rugby Africa 7s after losing to the champions South Africa 27-00 at the semi-final stage.

"To me it was great performance for young team like that. All the top three teams had several build ups against quality opponents whereas Uganda didn't have any," Buteme stated.

"We are going to continue playing, but to beat those teams, we need more international games to give our players enough exposure and experience so  that by the next qualifiers, we can match them," Buteme explained.

Uganda is ranked fourth in Africa behind South Africa, Kenya and Tunisia but ahead of Madagascar, Senegal, Zimbabwe and Morocco.

The Rugby Africa women sevens tournament was a qualifier for the 2018 Rugby 7s World Cup in San Francisco USA.
