The call was made by the Agriculture Minister, Vincent Ssempijja during the campaigns for the NRM party flag bearers
Voters in the newly created district of Kyotera have been asked to reward President Yoweri Museveni by electing NRM party flag bearer in the forthcoming polls slated for September 21, 2017.
The call was made by the Agriculture Minister, Vincent Ssempijja during the campaigns for the NRM party flag bearers for the district Council Chairperson, Patrick Kintu Kisekulo and Woman MP, Rachael Nakitende.
The campaigns that attracted thousands of supporters at Kyotera old taxi park on September 14 also included Robina Ssentongo(DP) and Cissy Ssentongo (Independent) as the opposition candidates for the district woman MP race.
Kintu Kisekulo(NRM) is tussling it out with Zilidamu (Independent) and the former Rakai district Education Officer Tom Balojja(DP). Kisekulo defeated Zilidamu in the NRM party primaries before he bounced back as an independent candidate.
Ssempijja said it will be a shame if the people of Kyotera vote for opposition candidates because it's the NRM government led by Museveni that created the new district of Kyotera to boost service delivery.
He said Kyotera will benefit more if they vote for the NRM candidates as their leaders because they will serve as a development bridge.
"You will reap more if you vote for the NRM party flag bearers, President Museveni is interested in leaders who are part of his political network," he said.
He cited the example of the area MP, Haruna Kasolo who was elevated to State Minister for Micro-Finance after he crossed from the opposition to the NRM side.
"You can see how President Museveni rewards, Kasolo who was initially opposition is now a very resourceful leader to you through his Micro Finance Ministry, vote wisely again," he said.
President Museveni and the DP president Norbert Mao are expected to camp in Kyotera early next week to participate in the final rallies for their flag bearers.
