Defeating Buffaloes and Black Pirates in the group stages was the motivating factor that helped Plascon Mongers win the fifth leg of the Guinness National Rugby 7s circuit at Makerere on Saturday.

This according to Mongers coach Kigongo Ssebalamu after his side defeated Betway Kobs 21-15 in the final to win the Makerere 7s circuit held at Makerere Graveyard Ground on Saturday.

"Sevens is an unpredictable game but when we beat Buffaloes and Pirates in the group stages, then we gained confidence that we can win this tournament," Kigongo stated.

"The two wins gave the boys more confidence and we went on to win our remaining games. We are going back to train, correct our mistakes and wait for the final leg at Legends on Saturday," Kigongo added.

Joel Pape, Brian Kamanyire and Timothy Lumanyika scored Mongers' tries before Kamanyire added conversions while Ivan Mugira, Justin Kimono and Davis Kiwalabye managed tries for Kobs.

Mongers win dented Kobs' title defence as it stopped them establishing a bigger margin atop the table.

Kobs now lead the table with 91 points followed by Buffaloes and Heathens.
